Learning doesn’t have to be boring.
Based on its location, Poblenou, with its industrial past, we drew inspiration from this sociocultural context. We created scaffolding for the communal desks, used wire mesh to connect with the working-class character of the neighborhood, and used words from places in the neighborhood to name the rooms. To organize the space, we took a dual approach The most rational approach generates structured systems that help to understand space, using the colors magenta, yellow, cyan, and black, basic geometric shapes associated with their formal meaning, and grids On the other hand, from a more emotional and sensory perspective, we design inspirational interventions that encourage interaction with the space and spark creativity. In the bathrooms, based on the concept of messages written on toilet walls, we designed colored strips with different messages taken from the students’ own work. These strips are glued and stuck randomly on the walls, creating an interesting visual wall.
Signage
We use two elements for signage: phrases and the color black. Self-editable glued paper support replacing traditional directional signage with colloquial phrases and concepts (in English and Spanish), fresher codes focused on students.
Sustainable Materialization
Most of the production for this project has been carried out using reused, recycled, and recyclable materials to minimize environmental impact. Cardboard boxes become typography, signage elements, or decorative mandalas; wooden planks become computer graphics; colored threads become interactive communication; magazines become decorative graphics; chalkboard paint becomes a grid for work methodology; and reused metal sheets become informational displays.
